Synopsis:
Commander Craig Couts has navigated from the Antarctic to the Arctic, and most places in between. He joined the Royal New Zealand Navy after leaving school, and he specialized as a navigating officer and compass adjuster. He has also spent six years attached to the Royal Navy. Since 1975 he has been a full time teacher of navigation in Auckland, instructing candidates for the New Zealand Yachtmaster examination and running his own classes. His latest book, Coastal Yacht Navigation, dales with the problems facing the inshore yacht, motor yacht and power boat owner. It provides the essential information to conduct a craft with safety in harbour or on coastal passages, and includes details about more recent aids to coastal navigation, such as radar and pocket calculators. The author is a member of the Auckland Volunteer Coastguard and holder of a commercial launchmaster's license, and has personal experience of the problems facing the small boat navigator
