Spontaneous painting and modelling can be the most direct expression of that unconscious world which lies buried beneath our daily actions and which erupts in the symbolism of our dreams and fantasies. For the mentally sick and the subnormal - and indeed for the healthy - this practical approach in therapy provides a creative outlet for feelings they have hitherto been unable to articulate in a normal way and gives a sense of release and fulfilment. It can become an integral part of the treatment arranged for the patient by the doctor.
