First Nights

Susan Fromberg Schaeffer

Now an ageing recluse, Anna engages as housekeeper Ivy Cook, from tiny Caribbean Green Island - founded, like Hollywood, on myth and magic. As Ivy pours out her earthy tales, Anna gradually counters with her Scandinavian childhood, the glamour and tragedies of her life and doomed love in pre-war Hollywood - until she finally sees that she does have a future.
