Introduction to decorating

Mary Gilliatt

This is a visual inspiration and a practical reference for decorators who are keen to create a home that is distinctive and comfortable, and who want to adapt their home to suit changing needs. A definition of international styles of decorating, including English Country, French Country, Scandinavian and Colonial, suggests how these genres may be adapted to suit personal taste. "Makeover" spreads show how kitchens, bedrooms, living rooms and children's rooms can be altered - to accommodate a growing family or, as more funds become available, by changing key elements in the basic structure of the room. Practical tips on how to care for antique furniture, floors, upholstery, carpets, paintings and ceramics, and advice on security and safety in the home will ensure that this guide becomes an source of information and ideas.
